Sunabe Gyros | Okinawa, Japan
2 Jul
After being here for nearly two years, my wife and I decided to try a place that we have been meaning to check out for quite some time. Right outside of Kadena Air Base gate 1 is a little restaurant named Sunabe Gyros. It is pretty popular spot for lunch because of their amazing gyro sandwiches they serve up.
My wife and I opted for their hottest seller, a beef gryo combo meal. The combo meals include your choice of either a beef or chicken gyro, fries or chips, and a drink. The gyro sandwichwith is made with warm pita bread, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and their tzatziki sauce. The tzatziki sauce is a thick Greek style yogurt sauce made with cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, and local sea salt. I was unsure about the sauce at first, but it ended up tasting superb.
Because there were not many patrons, it took less than 5 minutes for us to receive our meals after ordering. As an added bonus, we were able to enjoy our meals and a view of the Sunabe Seawall on their newly renovated rooftop. Each combo meal was more than reasonable at around ¥700.
The only downside is the parking situation down by the seawall. If you have ever been to the seawall then you know how frustrating it can be.
If you are looking for something quick and fun, check out Sunabe Gyros. Get your Gyro and enjoy watching divers, surfers and beautiful sunsets at the Sunabe Seawall.

Location/Directions
To get the Gyros, take Hwy 58 toward Kadena. At the stoplight right before Kadena Gate 1, take a left. Go through all the stoplights. After the last stoplight, Gyros is about half a block down on the right on the 2nd floor.

i L.O.V.E.tzatziki sauce :0) we can go there for lunch when i visit … i won’t mind at all.
Tricia,
I think the tzatziki sauce was the best part of the whole visit… cant wait for you to get here. IF THAT EVER HAPPENS!!!!
Did you likea da juice?
From my point of view, although it was a good enough copy of the real thing, the meat tasted really weird, because of the different spices they used it just did not taste right. And the tzatziki was made wrong, it is supposed to be yogurt, garlic, a little vinegar and a little bit of salt. However for a greek person like me, it is as close as it is going to get so it was not as bad as it could have been.
