Photo Day: Royal Procession | Okinawa, Japan

26 Oct

It seems like every other weekend I find out about another fantastic festival of some kind happening on the island. This really gives me a chance to get out and enjoy the culture and take some pictures too!

This weekend I headed back down to Naha’s Kokusai street with my wife and sister for the Royal Procession. The Royal Procession is a parade of all volunteers that want to showcase what Okinawa was like during the time of the ancient kingdom. Members dress in colorful outfits and perform numerous dances.

    I like the three shots you put up. You should put more of them in the post.

    It looks like an interesting and colorful event to attend and a good one for shooting.

    Jason,

    Great pictures. I was going to head out there but decided I was too sore from the day prior…I know, no excuses! I was wondering what camera you shoot with?

    I also want to let you know that you have a good eye for composition.

    John,
    Thanks for the complement. I spend plenty of my free time trying to teach myself as much as possible.
    I currently use the first DSLR I ever bought, a d40x. I bought this about 4 months ago so I could learn and become more involved with photography. I am still learning everyday….but I think I am starting to out grow the d40x.

    @Jay

    I bought a Nikon D80 (my first ever DSLR) back in August and am already feeling I’m outgrowing it. I think once you get a DSLR you learn much faster, especially if you are out taking nearly a 1,000 shots a week as I have been.

    What lenses do you have? I have the Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens and the Nikkor 50mm 1.8D lens. I still love the latter, but am seeing some limits with the former (can’t get super sharp shots at 200mm).

    What camera are you thinking of jumping to? The D90? For me, I’m already thinking about the D300, but maybe the money would be better spent on a better 200mm lens.

    nice pictures, jay. i like the whole set, especially the first one, with subtle bokeh.

    btw, the d300 is a dream camera, but i’d get the 70-200/f2.8 anytime if i have to choose. happy shooting!

    @brb & freedomwv,

    Thanks for comments.

    brb, I would love to own either the d300 or the 70-300/f2.8 you mentioned..
