Natural Light Portraits

9 Feb

When I started taking pictures a year ago, I was not that interested in portrait style photography. However, I have become more interested and curious about portrait photography after frequenting blogs like Strobist , Bert Stephani , and Squeeze the Lime .

I currently don’t own a strobe, but I still believe that learning the importance of lighting is crucial. I plan on purchasing a strobe in the upcoming months and using what I have learned from these websites to make incredible images.

Here are a couple photo’s that I recently took using just ambient light. Tell me what you think!

for years I too had little in the flash department. The biggest idea that I can enforce on you are reflectors. These are a diffuser, a white reflector, and a gold/silver reflector all in one. This way you can “bounce” light in the models face or diffuse harsh sunlight with ease, and little cost. Get a round one, about 3 feet across, and you will be golden!

Looking great as always. I saw some of these on your Flickr Stream. Hey can you take some pics of China when you go? Can we come along? :)

    Steve,
Thanks for the advice. I definately plan on buying some strobes in the future. What brand or item would you suggest when it comes to reflectors? I would love to hear your advice. I am sure you probably have an article on your website!
