Eating a Scorpion

1 Mar

I recently went back to the Crocodile restaurant with some friends and discovered something very interesting on their special "game" menu. The something interesting that I speak of is scorpion.

For about ¥1100 I got the chance to eat a scorpion. No, it wasn’t alive! I believe the chefs may have either deep fried or pan pan fried the scorpion before serving it.

The scorpion arrived somewhat warm no more than 5 minutes after I ordered it. One of my friends had already eaten one before and said that the only way to do it was all at once. Great idea!

It wasn’t all that bad, I  personally think it tasted like eggshells and puss/maggots. Really nice, right? If scorpions aren’t quite your thing, I noticed crickets or "bugs" on the menu right below the scorpion. I will have to save that feast for next time!

If you are in the Chatan area and want to try something fun and exciting, check out Crocodile Seafood and Bar located across from Jusco.

Here are a couple photo’s.

Like Pus and Eggshells, eh. Or maggots? I..I..Raaaalllllpppphhh!
    lol great experience!
I once ate some kind of tiny bugs that get into cereal boxes that have been on shelves too long. I wasn’t looking carefully just poured and added the milk, in a mad dash to satisfy my hunger. I had already gone through 3 or 4 spoonfuls before I had even acknowledged that the taste was different than usual. I looked down and noticed, swimming in the milk, bringing it to life, hundreds of little bugs. Even thinking about it now I want to Ralph all over my computer. But I guess it’s much different when you’re prepared…for maggots and egg shells. But I, I…Rallllllpppphh!
Damn I need a new keyboard!

    locohama,

I had the same thing happen to me one morning with cereal….not cool! The scorpion was not all that bad. It isnt going to be put on the top of my list of favorites though, haha.

    Tom,
    You’re crazy!

I quickly looked at the pictures and thought it was a fake scorpion since you didn’t doubt one second and you’re actually smiling. I thought I was open to eating anything but the maggot/eggshell description freaked me out @.@

    Stumbled! ;)

    Hao,
It was really tasty….hahahah!! That same restaurant also serves some other strange dishes that I may have to post later on. I look pretty happy in the last pic, but the after shot is a little worse.

Hello,This restaurant is just an exception right?
Most Okinawans do not eat scorpions and crocodiles right?

    James,

I couldn’t find it anywhere else on the island so I would have to say that the Crocodile restaurant serves it as a specialty item. After living there for a couple years I would say that most Okinawans are not crunching down on scorpions.
